The suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, has been remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre in Ogun State after failing to meet his bail conditions.
The Ogun State Police Command arraigned the monarch on Tuesday following a viral video that showed him assaulting a 73-year-old man, Abraham Areola.
Ogunjobi was charged with conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, Despite being granted bail with two sureties set at N5 million each, he was unable to meet the conditions and was subsequently remanded in custody.
The court has adjourned the case to March 6 for a hearing.
Civil society groups have praised the government for suspending Ogunjobi and ensuring that legal action is taken. Many activists have called for his full prosecution, emphasizing the need for justice in cases of abuse and misconduct.
