Katsina, Nigeria –A group of armed terrorists have kidnapped Major General Maharazu Tsiga (retired), a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), along with two other individuals in Katsina State.
The attack occurred on Wednesday night in Tsiga town, Kankara Local Government Area, where the assailants targeted the former general’s residence and took him away.
A journalist specializing in conflict and crisis reporting, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident. “Last night, bandits attacked Tsiga town and abducted three people, including former NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga,” he said.
The news quickly spread on social media, with a northern-based X user, @northern_trends, also reporting the abduction.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, stated that he had not yet been briefed on the situation. “I will get back to you once I receive more details,” he said.
Katsina State has been experiencing an increase in violent attacks by terrorists and bandits. In January, gunmen stormed Kankara General Hospital, where they shot Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire and abducted five people.
Security analysts have repeatedly called for improved measures to protect residents, hospitals, and other public spaces from further attacks.
As investigations into Tsiga’s abduction continue, residents are urging authorities to take immediate action to rescue him and curb the worsening security crisis in the region.
