Adeboye Calls for Release of TikToker Detained Over Cyberbullying Him

Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has urged authorities to release Seaking, a TikToker who was arrested for cyberbullying.

Seaking, whose real name is Olumide Ogunsanwo, was taken into custody in December on charges of treason, cyberstalking, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. His arrest followed a viral video in which he allegedly insulted President Bola Tinubu, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

Although he was initially granted bail, Seaking was rearrested last week at a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos. Reports suggest that his second arrest was linked to a social media post in which he criticized Adeboye.

In December, Seaking posted a TikTok video condemning Adeboye’s call for RCCG members to fast for 100 days for Nigeria. He described the directive as “stupid,” sparking backlash on social media.

During a recent Holy Ghost Congress, Adeboye addressed the controversy, saying he was aware of the TikToker’s remarks. However, he insisted that he was unbothered by the insults, viewing them instead as a fulfillment of prophecy.

“I heard that there was someone who lambasted me. What was my offence? Because I asked my people to fast for 100 days. I did not ask him. I did not even ask anyone who is not a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to fast. It was only my children. But God said that it will happen,” Adeboye said.

“Release Him”

The cleric went on to call for Seaking’s release, emphasizing that the critic’s actions were part of a divine plan.

“I was told that some people got so angry and they went and arrested the fellow. Release him. He is fulfilling prophecy. For my children, glory ahead,” Adeboye added.

Seaking’s arrest has reignited debates on freedom of speech in Nigeria, with many questioning the legal and ethical implications of detaining individuals over social media posts.
