Adamawa Police Commissioner Condemns Kidnapping of Catholic Priests

Yola, – The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, has strongly condemned the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. Mathew Dusami of Yola Catholic Diocese and Rev. Fr. Abraham Samman of Jalingo Diocese. The two priests were abducted in the early hours of February 22 at their residence in Gwaida Malam, Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, issued a statement on Saturday confirming the incident. He disclosed that a group of armed kidnappers stormed the priests’ residence at around 4 a.m. and took them away. In response, CP Morris has deployed police operatives to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims unharmed.

“In a concerted effort to ensure the safe return of the victims, the Commissioner of Police has mobilized operational and manpower assets to pursue the kidnappers, secure the release of the priests, and bring the culprits to justice,” the statement read.

The police command assured the public that all efforts are being made to locate the kidnappers and prevent further criminal activities in the state. CP Morris reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting lives and curbing violent crimes.

“This unprovoked kidnapping of religious leaders is completely unacceptable. These priests are not only vital stakeholders but also individuals who actively work to promote peace in society. We are determined to ensure their safe return and will not relent until the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted,” he added.

The Commissioner urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid the ongoing rescue operation. He also called on communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

This incident adds to a growing concern over security challenges in the region, with authorities continuing to intensify efforts to combat criminal activities and ensure public safety.
