Owerri – April 7, 2025– The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has strongly opposed the ambassadorial nomination of Mr. Reno Omokri, citing past statements made by the former presidential aide which directly accuse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of drug-related offenses.
Speaking to the press in Owerri, Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, National President of OYC, said Nigeria should only be represented abroad by individuals of integrity, whose words are factual and credible.
Igboayaka referenced Omokri’s December 17, 2022, social media post, in which he claimed, “Tinubu is a KNOWN DRUG LORD who belongs in jail, not Aso Rock,” and further alleged he had obtained “verified documents” in Chicago linking Tinubu to drug activity.
“If Nigeria’s security agencies have cleared Reno Omokri, then it means his allegations against Tinubu are either true or the institutions responsible for Nigeria’s global image lack credibility,” Igboayaka stated.
He emphasized that Omokri should be compelled to provide the so-called “verified documents from Chicago” as proof of his claims before being allowed to hold any diplomatic position.
“Clearing Reno to speak on behalf of Nigeria abroad will be seen as a direct endorsement of his past comments. Are we now agreeing that our president is, in his words, a ‘drug lord’? Is that the image we want to project internationally?” Igboayaka asked.
The youth leader added that such a move by the Presidency would further erode public confidence in the administration’s moral standing.
He also criticized Reno Omokri’s activism, alleging that his political commentaries are driven more by personal ambition than any genuine pursuit of democratic reform.
The OYC urged President Tinubu to consider the implications of Reno Omokri’s appointment, warning that it could be interpreted as institutional acceptance of the severe allegations previously made against the country’s leader.
