H.E. Amb Dr.Engr Kingsley Okwara Deputy Head of Mission African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly Champions Development at ARFSD-11 in Kampala

The 11th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-11) concluded in Kampala, Uganda, on April 11, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Africa’s pursuit of sustainable development. Held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo, the forum brought together a diverse array of stakeholders to align efforts towards the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Under the theme, “Driving job creation and economic growth through sustainable, inclusive, science and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063”, the forum emphasized the urgency of implementing transformative strategies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa’s long-term development blueprint.

The opening ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe. Their presence underscored the political commitment at the highest levels to the continent’s development agendas.

 

African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly’s Engagement

A delegation from the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, led by Head of Mission Dr. Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel and Deputy Headof Mission Dr.Engr Kingsley Okwara, actively participated in the forum. The assembly highlighted its progress in developing models and strategies to promote Agenda 2063, emphasizing the importance of aligning these efforts with the global 2030 Agenda.

Deputy Head of Mission, H.E. Amb Dr. Engr Kingsley Okwara, engaged in discussions with UN-ECA Executive Secretary Mr. Claver Gatete and Uganda’s Minister of General Duties, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba. These interactions focused on fostering collaboration and ensuring the assembly’s initiatives receive the necessary support and recognition.

In his address, Mr. Claver Gatete urged African leaders to adopt bold, transformative measures grounded in science and inclusivity to accelerate progress towards the SDGs and Agenda 2063. He emphasized the need for evidence-based solutions to address the continent’s development

The forum facilitated high-level discussions among various organizations, with delegates like Amb. Dr. Valentine Unimuke and Amb. Dr. Engr Williams Chima Nwaobi exploring avenues for collaboration. These engagements aimed to share best practices and innovative approaches to sustainable development.

As ARFSD-11 concluded, participants reaffirmed their commitment to a unified approach in achieving Africa’s development goals. The collaborative spirit and shared vision showcased at the forum signal a promising trajectory towards a prosperous and sustainable future for the continent.
