Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a prominent human rights lawyer and counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has taken aim at Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, over the controversial revocation of land rights issued by prior administrations.
In a strongly worded statement, Ejiofor denounced the Soludo-led administration’s sweeping withdrawal of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) for both private and commercial lands. He warned that such policies threaten property rights and could spark complex legal battles.
“While development requires space, Anambra’s landlocked geography presents legitimate constraints,” Ejiofor stated. “The administration must tread carefully, especially in cases where Certificates of Occupancy were already granted under previous governments.”
He emphasized the legal implications of such moves, pointing to ongoing disputes that necessitate a balanced and humane approach. “Development must not trample on justice or fairness,” he added.
Ejiofor also rebuked Governor Soludo for what he described as unnecessary personal attacks on respected Anambra elders. He cautioned that such rhetoric not only sows division but also undermines the integrity of the governor’s office.
“Political leadership requires tact. Disparaging elder statesmen over political disagreements risks alienating key stakeholders,” Ejiofor warned. “Soludo must rise above petty disputes and focus on policy-driven engagement.”
His remarks come amid growing discontent from landowners and political observers over the state’s handling of urban development and public communication.
