N82 Billion Fraud: Yahaya Bello’s Trial Adjourned to June 26

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, to June 26, 27 and July 3, 4, 2025. The adjournment, made by Justice Emeka Nwite, follows an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-examine a key witness in the case.

Bello is facing a 19-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving N80.2 billion—charges filed under the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended).

The EFCC’s application centers on its third witness, Nicholas Ojehomon, and issues arising from Exhibit 19, linked to the payment of school fees for Bello’s children at the American International School, Abuja.

EFCC counsel Olukayode Eniola, SAN, argued that the re-examination was necessary to address matters brought up during cross-examination, which the defence allegedly used to distort the witness’s testimony and tamper with the exhibit.

The defence, led by J.B. Daudu, SAN, objected, but Eniola maintained that the prosecution had a constitutional right to a fair hearing, citing several legal precedents to back the application.

Justice Nwite reserved his ruling on the application and adjourned for further proceedings.
