U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin following the largest aerial bombardment of Ukraine since the war began. In a statement shared on Truth Social on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Trump described Putin as “absolutely CRAZY,” condemning the assault that saw hundreds of drones and missiles rain down on Ukrainian cities overnight.
The massive Russian offensive involved at least 367 projectiles and marked the most extensive attack of the conflict to date. Ukrainian authorities confirmed the deaths of 12 civilians, including three children in the northern Zhytomyr region.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers,” Trump wrote in his post.
“Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever. I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right. But if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” he warned.
While strongly condemning Putin, Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of worsening the situation with his rhetoric.
“Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop,” Trump stated.
He added, “This is a war that would never have started if I were President. This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s war—not ‘Trump’s.’ I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires that have been started through gross incompetence and hatred.”
Trump’s remarks come at a critical point in the conflict, now entering its fourth year. Russian forces are reportedly advancing in eastern Ukraine, with both sides deploying advanced drone technology in fierce battles along the frontlines.
The Kremlin has continued to frame its actions as a “special military operation” aimed at curbing NATO expansion near Russia’s borders. However, Ukraine and its Western allies dismiss this claim, viewing the invasion as an unprovoked act of aggression against a sovereign nation.
Trump’s comments mark a shift in tone from earlier in his political career, where he often expressed admiration for Putin’s leadership style. His latest statement suggests a growing frustration with both the Russian president’s military aggression and the Ukrainian leader’s diplomatic posture.
As international leaders react to the attack and its implications, Trump’s dual criticism of both sides has sparked debate over America’s future role in the conflict, particularly as the 2026 presidential campaign begins to take shape.
