UYO, Nigeria – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reacted to a viral video allegedly involving a member of his family making claims about the death of his wife. Patience Umo Eno, stating firmly that his family remains united.
Speaking to Government House correspondents on Saturday at Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, during the 60th birthday celebration of former Deputy Governor Obong Nsima Ekere, the governor described the video as a political distraction.
“We are in political times, so you can expect more of that. My family is intact, and you can see everyone here with me,” the governor said.
He questioned the timing of the video’s emergence, noting that the incident referred to happened shortly after his wife’s passing last year, yet is now trending as his second year in office is being marked.
“This teaches me that there are detractors around,” he added. “The pressure on the children when they lose a loved one can be traumatic. All I ask is that we don’t reopen old wounds. My wife is gone, and I pray her soul rests in peace.”
Governor Eno stressed that despite these attempts to divert attention, he remains focused on implementing the ARISE Agenda and serving the people of Akwa Ibom State.
“I will not be distracted,” he declared. “To those spreading the rumours, if that’s what they wish for themselves, I wish them luck.”
He also congratulated Obong Nsima Ekere on his 60th birthday and wished him long life, good health, and the continued strength to contribute to the state’s development.
