New York City Mayor Eric Adams to Celebrate Congo Lipanda Day

New York City Mayor Eric Adams will join the Congolese community in celebrating Congo Lipanda Day on Saturday, June 29th, at Bowling Green Park. The event, organized by Nkumu Katalay LLC and the NYC African Council, will feature the raising of the Congolese flag and a celebration of Congolese culture and heritage.

The event, which will take place from 1-4 pm, will commemorate the 64th independence of Congo and celebrate the contributions of the Congolese community to New York City. The theme of the event, “To Tié LIBAYA,” means “We are here to stay” in Lingala, a language spoken in Congo.

This event is significant because it recognizes the resilience and strength of the Congolese people, who have faced colonialism, oppression, and other challenges throughout their history. The raising of the Congolese flag in New York City is a symbol of the community’s pride and identity.

Last year, Mayor Adams delivered remarks at a flag-raising ceremony at Bowling Green Park, acknowledging the contribution of the Congolese community to the city’s greatness. He emphasized the importance of celebrating diversity and promoting inclusivity in the city.

The Congolese Flag Raising Day with Mayor Eric Adams is a unique opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate their heritage. The event promises to be an exciting and vibrant celebration of Congolese culture, with food, music, and dance performances.

All are invited to attend this free event, which will take place at Bowling Green Park, located at Bowling Green, New York, NY 10004. For more information and to RSVP, please visit Eventbrite.
