Protesters Block Abuja Streets with Burning Tyres After Security Raid Leaves One Injured

Protests erupted in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on Mobassa Street following a security operation targeting drug dealers that reportedly left one person injured. Residents took to the streets, setting up barricades and burning tyres in response to the incident.

According to eyewitness accounts, the raid involved a clash between security agents and individuals at the location, known for illicit drug activities. A local resident explained, “The security agents came to raid drug sellers, and there was a gunshot. Someone is lying on the ground, possibly shot during the operation.”

The raid and ensuing violence sparked immediate outrage among community members. Protesters expressed their frustration by lighting bonfires and blocking the streets, bringing traffic and commercial activities in the area to a halt.

Residents claim that Mobassa Street has long been a hotspot for drug activities, drawing both sellers and buyers. The latest incident has heightened tensions in the community, with calls for clarity on the circumstances of the operation and the condition of the injured individual.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the raid, the reported gunshot victim, or the ongoing protests.

As the situation unfolds, community members are urging both the government and security agencies to adopt more transparent and community-focused approaches to addressing crime while avoiding harm to innocent residents.
