Tuface and Majek Fashek calls for” Holy Spirit” on the Rainmaker’s return

The brilliance of Tuface Idibia still endures and shines  and Majek the rainmaker is finally back with a blast, this extraordinary tune from two legends lived up to if not beyond the expectation of their fans, with the incessant stories of Majek’s addiction to chemical substance being circulated over the media in almost a decade, everyone thought  it’s the end of one Nigeria’s  Reggae success story of the eighties, Majek who has worked with international artiste of high repute, a list that includes Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg and Beyonce

Veteran artiste Majek Fashek is definitely still got it in him, he shows us with his come back offering. The song which is titled No More Sorrow featuring iconic  2Baba is on point, the lyrics, theme of the song and its delivery was perfect, the song is prophetic, melodious and like a call of repentance from the reggae bad man, “i am crying come take over me now” the last line of the chorus signifies this, one cant help personifying the  lyrics of the song to the tragic experience of the rain maker which he is finally overcoming.

‘No more sorrow no more weeping”  is a masterpiece, the two class acts delivered beautifully on the record. Majek still has his vocal chords though they sound more tiny, hoarse and strained, being able to deliver his verse at its tempo signifies his lungs has restrained some of its strenght, despite his age and absence in the recording studio.

Majek Fashek started of his solo career after some stints with  the group Jastix  but in 1988 he signed with Tabansi Records and began a solo career by releasing the album Prisoner of Conscience and quickly became Nigeria’s top reggae artist after the song “Send Down The Rain” became the most popular song of the year, and in 1989 he won six PMAN awards which included “Song of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, and “Reggae Artist of the Year”.Fashek’s next album was I&I Experience which was released in late 1989 under the Tabansi label.

After leaving Tabansi Records, he was signed to CBS Nigeria in the early 1990s and released So Long Too Long. In 1990 he was signed to Interscope Records and released the critically acclaimed album Spirit Of Love, produced by “Little Steven” Van Zandt. In 1992, he appeared on Late Night with David Letterman in support of his new 1991 album, and performed the song “So Long Too Long” for the television audience. Flame Tree released The Best of Majek Fashek in 1994. He was later dropped by Interscope before moving to Mango, a division of Island Records, as it was more accustomed to marketing reggae internationally. His first album for the company included a cover version of Bob Marley‘s “Redemption Song”. He has recorded several albums for various labels since, including Rainmaker for Tuff Gong (1997) and Little Patience for Coral (2004).

Majek’s come back is a an act of strong will and determination, we all need to support this legend and kudos to Tuface Idibia who murdered this song, Majek still have it in him to still win more laurels and accolades in the music industry ,this collaboration is a pointer to the fact, Nigerian Reggae song of the year this must be.
