Chief Oparawuagu raises alarm on Road Construction Induced floods in Imo

Chief Chijioke Nzeji, Opara Wu Agu 1 na Mbaise, a South African based Investment Manager and a community leader from Aboh Mbaise, Imo State Nigeria, recently spoke out about the environmental issue arising from the frustrating flood that has bedeviled one side of villages on the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road.

In his post on social media, Chief Opara wu agu 1 expressed his disappointment with the Cranburg Construction Company, which is in charge of the road’s construction from Owerri to Umuahia traversing the Mbaise- Obowo- Axis. He pointed out that the company had done gutter/drainage on one part of the road and abandoned the opposite side of the road, leaving the communities on the other side flooded whenever it rains. He called for the government to take note of this and not pay the company for its poor standard of work.

According to reports, the communities affected by the flood are in great distress over how to handle the situation as it is leading to great economic loss and infrastructural damage whenever it rains, the residents have also accused the construction company of intentionally neglecting one side of the road, failing to provide adequate drainage to prevent flooding.

The situation has been a source of concern for Chief Opara wu agu , who has been actively involved in community development and advocacy. He has been vocal about the need for the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and hold contractors accountable for their work.

‘’ How Could Cranburg Construction Company in charge of Owerri/Mbaise/Umuahia road,do gutter/drainage on one part of the road and abandon the opposite side of the road?  That’s low standard and they must not be paid for this poor standard work because the communities on the other side where there are no drainage system are flooded whenever it rains, please govt should take note.’’ Chief Opara wu agu 1 posted on his social media handle.
