GetBundi, a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM), and online digital skills platform, on Thursday  sensitised students to the value of STEM subjects.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the schools visited were Kuramo Senior College and Victoria Island Senior School, both in Victoria Island, Lagos

Mrs Juliet Ijei, the Course Coordinator of GetBundi Education Technology, in a remark, said that bringing the programme to the schools reflected GetBundi’s commitment to promoting STEM education across Africa.

“It also aligns with the 2024 World Education Day,” she noted.

The coordinator highlighted the importance of addressing the misconceptions surrounding STEM subjects, and emphasised the significance of reaching out to students who may face financial barriers.

According to her, the programme aims to support students in conquering challenges or fears they may have regarding STEM subjects.

She said the organisation also recognised that some students may lack access to educational resources like the online platform due to data constraints.

She said that GetBundi was making available, quality digital skills education for the youths and STEM subjects for post-primary school students across Africa at a highly subsidised fee.

According to her, this is done through GetBundi Education Foundation “to support those who are potentially left behind, especially girls, internally displaced students, the disabled and the refugees”.

Mr Babatunde Lawal, the Principal of Kuramo Senior College, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the efforts made by GetBundi to shore up students’ interest in STEM subjects.

Lawal said that the collaboration with stakeholders, such as GetBundi, provides valuable opportunities for students to enhance their learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom setting.

He emphasised the importance of exposing students to various educational opportunities and experiences, stressing that education goes beyond the confines of the school environment.

According to him, the partnership serves as a valuable means of furthering the educational prospects for the students and demonstrates the broader impact of industry collaborations in supporting and enriching the educational journey of students.

On the impact of the GetBundi’s platform, students at Kuramo Senior School and Victoria Island Senior school said the ability to access educational materials at their fingertips through a mobile app is empowering.

Miss Precious Adigun, one of the students, said she is excited  to see other ways of learning mostly to study and revise for WAEC examination in May 2024.

She said it was also encouraging to see that students were having fun accessing the platform.

According to her, it facilitates learning and also promotes collaboration and interaction with students from other schools.

Another student, Master Usman Abubakar, explained that the availability of diverse educational contents had been so helpful, “especially for students to improve in subjects they may find challenging”.

He also spoke on the quick quiz they took, noting that the experience of participating in it proved to be enjoyable and rewarding.

Purity Monday, another student, said that the significant positive impact of GetBundi’s platform is that it provides a valuable resource for independent study, learning and social interaction.

Mr Osita Oparaugo, the founder of GetBundi Education Technology, who was part of the GetBundi team that visited the two schools, emphasised the importance of STEM education and their place in future of the students.

“If you embrace STEM education, your future is assured,” he declared.

He encouraged the students to take advantage of GetBundi platform to chart a great path for themselves.

Oparaugo gave scholarship access to five students from each school.
