In a renewed push against armed criminals in Plateau State, Nigerian Army troops from the 3rd Division under Operation Safe Haven conducted an intelligence-led raid at Teng Village in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, resulting in the death of one bandit.
Military spokesman Major Samson Zhakom disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, May 23, 2025.
According to the statement, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and flush out non-state actors from the region. The troops reportedly engaged the bandits during the early morning raid, overpowering them and forcing a retreat.
“One bandit was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire,” Zhakom said, adding that blood traces discovered along escape routes indicate several others sustained severe gunshot wounds.
The troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from the hideout. These items have been secured for further investigation.
The military task force affirmed its commitment to intensifying operations across the state and continuing the pursuit of fleeing bandits.
“Operation Safe Haven remains committed to neutralising the threat posed by armed criminals and will not relent until peace is fully restored,” the statement concluded.
This latest operation adds to Nigeria’s broader security efforts aimed at tackling insurgency, banditry, and violent crimes, particularly in northern and central states.
