Former Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Ari Muhammed Ali has officially joined Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and is setting his sights on representing Nasarawa South in the Senate during the 2027 general elections, SaharaReporters has exclusively gathered.
Ari Muhammed, who retired from the Nigeria Police Force in March 2025, was among several top-ranking officers compulsorily retired by the embattled Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, amid allegations of age falsification and breaches of service rules. Others affected included DIGs Dasuki Galandachi, Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, Jonathan Towuru, Suleiman Yusuf, Banji Lawal Badru, and Bala Ciroma.
Sources revealed that Ari Muhammed’s political ambition is already taking shape within the APC structure in Nasarawa State, where he plans to contest for the senatorial position in Nasarawa South.
“Ari Muhammed is equally contesting for Senate under APC in Nasarawa South,” a reliable insider told SaharaReporters on Saturday.
His move mirrors the political trajectory of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, who after retiring in 2021, recently declared his ambition to contest for the governorship of Nasarawa State under the APC banner in 2027.
Adamu’s official declaration during a meeting with the Nasarawa APC State Working Committee in Lafia emphasized his intention to run a transparent and development-focused administration if elected.
Meanwhile, the political landscape in Nasarawa continues to evolve, with Governor Abdullahi Sule currently serving his second term in office under the APC. As aspirants like Adamu and Ari Muhammed throw their hats into the ring, the 2027 elections are shaping up to be highly competitive in the state.
