The Labour Party (LP) has responded to a recent gathering involving its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and some key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obi had a private discussion with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was also the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, in Abuja on Monday. He also met separately with former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
In an interview with The Punch on Monday, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, expressed support for the meeting, describing it as timely. Ifoh emphasized that it was a gathering of individuals who share the belief in the necessity of better leadership for the country.
He revealed that more meetings are planned ahead of the 2027 general election, noting the challenging times Nigeria faces under the current APC administration, which he described as directionless over the past year.
Ifoh emphasized the shared concern among participants about the suffering of Nigerians, the persistence of corruption in high places, and the mismanagement of the nation’s resources.
He stressed the importance of unity and action to tackle these issues, indicating that the recent meeting is just the beginning of a series of interactions aimed at brainstorming solutions to rescue the nation.
The Labour Party affirmed its awareness of the gathering and its commitment to working diligently to achieve positive change for Nigeria.
