NIGER STATE – Over 100 armed bandits have been reportedly killed by Nigerian Army troops in collaboration with vigilante operatives around Kundu in the Wushishi local government area of Niger State. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
Sources indicate that the security forces ambushed the bandits while they were crossing Kontagora road on their usual route towards the Akere axis of Kundu. The military and vigilantes, who had been monitoring the bandits’ movements, launched the ambush, resulting in significant casualties among the criminals.
A resident from the Kundu community reported that locals had been warned of the bandits’ approach on motorcycles. However, the bandits abandoned their motorcycles and proceeded on foot, likely due to information from informants.
Ishaku Musa Kato, a resident of Wushishi, noted that gunshots were heard on Wednesday morning despite heavy rainfall. “We commend the military and vigilantes for successfully countering them this time around,” he said.
Retired General Abdullahi Bello Mohammed, the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland and Security, confirmed the incident and praised the military and vigilantes for their efforts. “The bandits will surely evacuate their injured and corpses. Nobody can confirm the exact number of casualties now,” he stated.
