Benin City, September 22, 2024 — The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has taken a significant lead in the Edo State governorship election, according to results from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre in Benin City.

With votes tallied from 16 local government areas (LGAs), Okpebholo currently holds a 48,000-vote lead over his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Okpebholo, who represents Edo Central in the Senate, has secured 244,549 votes, while Ighodalo has garnered 195,954 votes.

So far, Okpebholo has won 10 out of the 16 LGAs announced. Results from two more local government areas are expected later in the day, which could further shape the outcome of the election.

The INEC Collation Centre in Benin City is expected to reconvene soon to continue the announcement of the final results.
