Palestinian Ambassador Commends Nigeria for Speaking Against Israeli ‘Genocide’ in Gaza

The Palestinian ambassador has commended Nigeria’s diplomatic stance on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, referring to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as “genocide” and urging the international community to intervene. The statement, delivered during a diplomatic engagement, highlighted Nigeria’s continued support for Palestinian statehood and its recent condemnation of Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. The ambassador stated that over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in the past year alone, underscoring the gravity of the humanitarian toll on the Palestinian people.

Speaking on Nigeria’s diplomatic stance, the Palestinian envoy praised the country for standing with the Palestinian cause at the United Nations and other international platforms. “We are grateful for Nigeria’s unwavering support in speaking against the atrocities committed in Gaza. The international community must hold Israel accountable for the ongoing genocide and bring an end to the suffering of our people,” the ambassador said.

The conflict in Gaza has seen increasing casualties over the years, with recurring flare-ups between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants. While Israel justifies its military actions as necessary to combat Hamas, the ruling militant group in Gaza, human rights organizations have repeatedly criticized the disproportionate use of force that has led to the deaths of thousands of civilians, including women and children.

International bodies, including the United Nations and Human Rights Watch, have raised concerns about the situation in Gaza, describing it as a humanitarian disaster. According to recent UN reports, many of the areas in Gaza have been subjected to indiscriminate bombings, destroying homes, schools, and hospitals. “The loss of civilian life is unacceptable, and the world must act to bring justice to the Palestinian people,” the Palestinian ambassador remarked.

In addition to its support at international forums, Nigeria’s government has provided humanitarian aid to Gaza in the form of medical supplies and food donations. Civil society groups in Nigeria have also been vocal in their condemnation of the violence in Gaza, organizing protests and calling on the Nigerian government to exert more pressure on Israel through its diplomatic channels.

As the conflict drags on, the international community is split, with some countries fully backing Israel’s right to self-defense, while others, like Nigeria, continue to advocate for a two-state solution and call for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Despite several attempts at brokering peace, including numerous ceasefires mediated by Egypt, the violence continues to escalate, raising concerns over the long-term prospects of peace in the region.

The Palestinian ambassador emphasized the need for dialogue and peaceful resolution, urging Nigeria and other nations to continue playing a leading role in peace negotiations. “Only through collective global efforts can we put an end to the decades-long suffering of the Palestinian people,” the ambassador concluded.

International observers will be watching closely how Nigeria continues to engage with the issue and whether it can maintain its position as a mediator in future peace efforts.
