The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced on Thursday that it has recovered over ₦248 billion in crime proceeds over the past year, along with £53,000 and €172,000. These figures were shared by Wilson Uwajaren, the EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, during an update on the agency’s recent achievements.
In addition to these funds, Uwajaren noted that €5,000 was recovered specifically for victims of crimes in Spain, highlighting the EFCC’s international efforts in asset recovery and victim restitution.
The EFCC also announced that it has taken steps to combat cybercrime more effectively, with plans for rapid response strategies expected to reduce cyber-related offenses across Nigeria. Uwajaren reported that the agency secured over 35 convictions in the last year for offenses involving the abuse of the Naira at social events, showing its commitment to protecting the national currency.
Further bolstering its efforts, the EFCC is set to establish three new directorates in Ekiti, Katsina, and Anambra states, aiming to expand its reach and enhance its operational presence across Nigeria.
The EFCC continues to lead efforts against financial crimes and cyber fraud in Nigeria, driving forward initiatives to safeguard financial integrity and bring offenders to justice.
