President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting was scheduled in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja. The meeting, initially set to take place on Wednesday, was postponed after news of Lt. General Lagbaja’s passing on Tuesday night.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to Onanuga, President Tinubu has directed flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days to honor the late army chief. The President expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that a new date for the FEC meeting will be announced later.
Lt. General Lagbaja, born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, was appointed as the 27th Chief of Army Staff in June 2023. His appointment was seen as a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s military leadership. The late general was a respected figure within the Nigerian military and was known for his dedication and commitment to service.
The cause of Lt. General Lagbaja’s death was reported to be health-related. His family reportedly arranged for him to receive medical treatment abroad after initial treatments in Nigeria proved ineffective.
