Abuja – President Bola Tinubu has approved the takeover of Nok University in Kachia, Kaduna State, transforming it into a federal university. The institution has been renamed the *mFederal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna.
This decision follows a ruling by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, which finalized the forfeiture of the privately-owned university to the federal government.
At a ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) formally handed over the university’s property and assets to the federal government.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was present at the event, stated that the move aligns with the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and national development. He praised President Tinubu for prioritizing the transition, noting that it was a key item on the Federal Executive Council’s agenda.
Shettima also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to infrastructure development in Southern Kaduna, particularly road construction projects that will benefit the region.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani expressed his appreciation to the president, calling the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences a major milestone for the people of Southern Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole.
Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukayode, revealed that the court had granted a final forfeiture judgment on Nok University’s assets, which include academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center. These properties have now been transferred to the newly established federal university.
The conversion of Nok University to a federal institution is seen as a significant step in expanding access to quality higher education in Nigeria.
