Borno State, Nigeria – Three police officers were injured on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists exploded along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
According to intelligence sources, the explosion occurred around 3 p.m. near Garin Kuturu village, between Auno and Jakana in Borno State. The device detonated as members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) unknowingly stepped on it, destroying their patrol vehicle and creating a deep crater at the scene.
A bomb disposal team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit was immediately deployed to secure the area and check for additional threats.
Authorities confirmed that the injured officers were taken to the Borno State Specialist Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.
In a separate incident, suspected gunmen attacked a settlement in the Ogbe forest area of Kogi State, killing six children.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred on Sunday when unidentified assailants stormed a camp where the victims were tending cattle. The gunmen opened fire, killing all six children instantly.
The families of the victims reported the incident to the police on March 11, 2025. Investigators have since visited the scene, taken photographs of the victims, and launched an inquiry into the attack.
Authorities have not yet identified the attackers or their motive, but security forces are intensifying efforts to track them down.
Both incidents highlight the persistent security challenges in Nigeria, as authorities continue efforts to combat terrorism and violent attacks across the country.
