Felix Okemini, widely known as “Jango” and former Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security to Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over serious allegations of cultism and corruption.
The arrest, which took place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Abakaliki, comes after months of controversy surrounding Okemini’s conduct both during and after his time in government.
Sources told Reporters that Okemini’s troubles began with longstanding allegations of cult-related activities dating back to his university days at the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, where he was expelled. Despite his history, he ascended through the state’s political ranks—serving first as Director of Protocols to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, then as SSA on Internal Security.
While in office, he allegedly led a group that illegally seized and sold government properties—including vehicles, machinery, and land—without authorization. Reports suggest he ignored several warnings from Governor Nwifuru to desist.
The scandal peaked last month when Okemini, attending his matriculation at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ikwo, posted a video showing him displaying alleged cult gestures alongside suspected cult members. This led to his immediate dismissal from his role, suspension from the university, and isolation by his former associates.
Following the fallout, Okemini reportedly pleaded for reinstatement. When the governor refused but offered government contracts instead, he allegedly threatened to expose sensitive political information tied to the 2023 elections.
In response, NSCDC operatives arrested him at his residence. Sources within the government say the arrest is part of a broader effort to cleanse the state administration of corruption and misuse of office.
“This arrest sends a clear message that no one is above the law,” said a senior official who requested anonymity. “The government is serious about accountability.”
When contacted, NSCDC spokesperson Emmanuella Ibeneme declined to confirm or deny the arrest, stating, “I will get back to you later.”
Okemini is expected to face interrogation over the alleged illegal sale of government assets worth billions of naira.
