The Federal Ministry of Finance has strongly denied recent online reports alleging that contracts worth ₦13 billion were awarded between February and June 2024 without following due process.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, described the claims as false and malicious, stating they were intended to tarnish the image of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya.
“These claims are completely unfounded and baseless,” Manga stated. “They are aimed at distracting the Ministry from its critical role in implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and ongoing economic reforms.”
He emphasized that all contracts awarded during the stated period—including those related to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG)—were executed in line with the Public Procurement Act and other legal guidelines.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance. It also warned that legal action would be taken against individuals or organizations spreading falsehoods about its operations.
“We urge journalists and media platforms to verify information before publication,” the statement added, while calling on the public to disregard the false publication.
The Ministry reaffirmed its focus on revitalizing Nigeria’s economy and improving citizens’ welfare in line with national priorities.
