Bianca Ojukwu Confident Tinubu Will Release Nnamdi Kanu

Abuja, Nigeria — Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu has expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Ojukwu made the remarks during the 13th memorial anniversary of her late husband, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, held recently.

The minister highlighted that Kanu’s release is essential to distinguish genuine freedom fighters from criminals using IPOB’s name to perpetrate violence in the Southeast region. According to her, resolving the issue would help address the insecurity that has forced many residents to flee their homes and deterred members of the diaspora from returning to the region.

“The reign of terror in the Southeast must stop,” Ojukwu stated. “It’s time for our people to reclaim their land and uphold the ideals my late husband stood for.”

Ojukwu expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to take decisive steps on the matter, noting that his administration recognizes the importance of peace in the Southeast. She emphasized that releasing Kanu would unmask those exploiting IPOB’s image to cause chaos.

However, her remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some praised her stance, others questioned whether Tinubu has the political will to act, given the sensitivities surrounding Kanu’s detention.

The Southeast has been plagued by violence and instability in recent years, with criminal elements allegedly hiding under the guise of agitation for Biafra to commit crimes, including kidnappings and attacks on residents. Ojukwu urged Southeast leaders and citizens to work together in reclaiming their land and restoring peace.

The call to release Nnamdi Kanu adds to the list of critical decisions facing the Tinubu administration. Observers note that how the president handles this issue could significantly impact peace and development in the Southeast.
