IPOB Urges UNIZIK and WAEC to Reschedule Events on May 30th

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have called on Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to postpone their scheduled events on May 30th. IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, emphasized in a statement that May 30th is Biafra Heroes Day, a day of remembrance and sit-at-home for all Biafrans.

IPOB highlighted that the Vice Chancellor of UNIZIK, Professor Charles Esimone, and WAEC should have been aware of the significance of this day to the Igbo community. The statement stressed that no public events should take place in Biafra land on this day, as it is dedicated to honoring those who lost their lives in the Nigerian-Biafran War from 1967 to 1970.

Emma Powerful warned that holding the convocation and exams on May 30th would be seen as disrespectful to Biafran heroes and heroines. IPOB urged all individuals and institutions involved to reschedule their programs to avoid endangering lives and dishonoring the memories of the fallen.

The statement also mentioned that IPOB would not enforce the sit-at-home order but cautioned against any activities that day, noting past incidents of violence during similar observances. IPOB called for caution and respect for Biafra Heroes Day, emphasizing the importance of honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the Biafran cause.
