Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Jakana Police Station in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State early Sunday morning. The raid resulted in the deaths of a police officer and a woman, and the theft of several arms and ammunition.
According to security sources, the insurgents arrived at the station around 1:00 am and engaged in a fierce gun battle with the officers on duty until 3:00 am. During the attack, the terrorists set fire to two patrol vehicles and a motorcycle.
“They overpowered the officers, gained access to the police station, and looted arms and ammunition,” a source said. One of the destroyed vehicles belonged to the police, while the other was owned by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The Chairman of Konduga Local Government, Hon Abbas Ali Abari, confirmed the incident and promised to provide more details as they become available.
Attempts to contact Nahun Kenneth, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Command, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to phone calls or text messages.
Jakana is located about 45 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, along the Damaturu-Maiduguri expressway.
