In a tragic incident, Safiyanu Ibrahim, the son of the Sarkin Hausawan Janjala in Kagarko Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, Ibrahim Magaji, was shot dead by bandits.
A resident of Janjala, Shuaibu Aliyu, confirmed the incident via telephone on Sunday. He reported that Safiyanu’s younger brother, Nasiru Abubakar, was also shot in the leg by the bandits. Nasiru has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
The attack occurred around 5:12 pm on Saturday. Bandits arrived on motorcycles, went straight to Safiyanu’s shop, and shot him dead. They also shot Nasiru in the leg during the assault.
Safiyanu, who recently took a second wife from Zamfara State and had four children, held the traditional title of Sarkin Makara of Janjala.
After killing Safiyanu, the bandits moved to a nearby Fulani settlement and stole 285 cows. The cows belonged to herders who were migrating from Masaka in Nasarawa State to Kaduna State and had stopped in Janjala to rest for the night.
“The Fulanis were migrating from Masaka in Nasarawa State to Kaduna State and stopped to pass the night in Janjala when the bandits came and rustled their cows,” Aliyu explained.
Safiyanu’s remains have been buried according to Islamic rites.
As of the time of this report, SP Hassan Mansur, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, had not yet confirmed the incident.
