Barbados is pleased to hear that the United States has decided to remove Cuba from its list of countries that are “not cooperating fully” in the fight against terrorism. However, Barbados points out that Cuba is still on the US State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Barbados firmly believes that there was no reason for Cuba to be put on the list of state sponsors of terrorism in January 2021, and there is still no reason for it today. The country condemns Cuba’s inclusion on this list, stating it has caused significant economic damage and suffering for the Cuban people.
The damage from being on this list, according to Barbados, adds to the severe impact of the 62-year-old economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba. This embargo has long been criticized for causing hardship for the Cuban population.
Barbados is calling for the United States to urgently remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and to end the economic embargo. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados issued a statement emphasizing the need for these actions to provide relief to the Cuban people, who have suffered under these harsh conditions for too long.
The Government of Barbados hopes these steps will be taken swiftly to help improve the situation in Cuba and alleviate the ongoing suffering.
