Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has approved the National Construction and Household Support Programme, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, strengthening the economy, and providing immediate economic relief to Nigerian households. The programme includes a N50,000 uplift grant for 100,000 families per state for three months, and N155 billion for food distribution.
According to Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, the programme will also fund infrastructure projects, including the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and Trans-Saharan Highway. Additionally, full financing was approved for the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Railway and the Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano Standard-Gauge Railway.
President Tinubu urged state governors to collaborate, saying, “Our states must work together to deliver on critical reforms… We must produce high-quality food for our people to consume, buy, and sell.” He promised support for mechanization, seedlings, and solar-powered irrigation facilities, emphasizing the importance of coordination and intentionality.
The programme aims to provide economic relief, strengthen the economy, and boost agricultural productivity. The approval and allocation of funds addresses concerns about food security and affordability, showing President Tinubu’s commitment to supporting Nigerian households and boosting food production.
