Minister of Works Terminates Contracts with Three Companies Over Delayed Road Projects

The Federal Ministry of Works has terminated its contracts with Mothercat, Dantata and Sawoe, and RCC companies due to delays and non-performance in the dualization of the Obajana-Benin Roads. This decision was made under the leadership of Minister Nwenze David Umahi.

The affected projects include the dualization of Obajana-Benin road, sections II, III, and IV, in Kogi and Edo States. These projects were awarded on December 3, 2012, but were abandoned by the contractors, who failed to meet their contractual obligations despite receiving government considerations.

The termination was necessary due to significant delays and the contractors’ failure to perform. The non-performance has led to the expiration of the contracts, subjecting road users to severe hardship due to the deplorable conditions of the roads.

The Minister has warned that all funded but non-performing contracts will be terminated. The Ministry has directed other bodies to take over from the affected companies to ensure the projects’ completion.

This move aims to ensure the timely completion of the projects and alleviate the suffering of road users. The Minister’s decision demonstrates the government’s commitment to accountability and effective project delivery.

The termination of these contracts serves as a warning to other contractors who fail to meet their obligations. The government will not tolerate non-performance, and action will be taken against those who do not deliver.

The Ministry of Works is committed to ensuring that road projects are completed on time and to the required standards. This decision will help to improve road infrastructure and enhance the lives of Nigerians.
