Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 elections, has congratulated Keir Starmer and the UK’s Labour Party on their landslide victory in the recent election. Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, had previously declared his support for the UK Labour Party.
In a statement on social media, Obi wrote, “I sincerely congratulate Keir Starmer and the Labour Party UK on their landslide victory… May this victory translate to a better and new chapter for all UK residents as you remain committed to your electoral promises.”
Obi also called for increased collaboration between the UK and Nigeria, stating that Nigeria faces challenges such as insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty, and could greatly benefit from the UK’s support. He expressed his hope that the new government will promote stronger ties between the two nations and help deepen Nigeria’s democracy.
Obi concluded his message by saying, “Let us work together to build a brighter future commonwealth for all. I wish you a successful tenure.” This gesture of goodwill and cooperation highlights the importance of international partnerships and solidarity in addressing global challenges.
