Global Africans Against Slavery (GLAAS) launched a comprehensive sensitization project aimed at combating child trafficking in Nigeria. The initiative was aligned with the United Nations’ World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed on July 30. This project, part of GLAAS’s Gospel Against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (HTMS) Campaign, ran from July 24 to August 30, 2024, to raise awareness and educate parents and pupils about the serious issues of human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The official launch of this campaign took place on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the Divine Mercy Nursery and Primary School’s graduation ceremony in Kaduna, Nigeria. During this event, a session on child trafficking was conducted by a teacher, covering traffickers’ methods, associated dangers, and preventive measures. Notably, this session was presented in both English and Hausa to ensure widespread comprehension.
GLAAS focused on grassroots education and community involvement to empower children and their guardians with the necessary knowledge to resist trafficking attempts. Furthermore, the organization addressed the root causes of trafficking, such as poverty and social inequality, and sought to create sustainable change and long-term protection for children.
This crucial initiative brought together various stakeholders, including local communities, educational institutions, and religious organizations, to form a united front against human trafficking. GLAAS called on individuals and organizations to join their campaigns, raise awareness, participate in educational programs, and advocate for stronger protective measures.
As the 10th World Day Against Trafficking in Persons approached on July 30, GLAAS’s efforts were pivotal in the global fight to end this severe violation of human rights. Through community education and empowerment, GLAAS strove to ensure that no child was left behind in the fight against human trafficking.
