Abuja, July 28, 2024– Ademario Emmanuel, Director General of the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), has spoken against the planned protest scheduled for August. In an interview with Legit.ng on Saturday, July 27, Emmanuel stressed the need for unity and constructive dialogue to address the nation’s challenges.
Emmanuel commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his recent announcement on restructuring the country, calling it a significant step towards addressing longstanding issues that have hindered national development and security. He praised the administration’s commitment to implementing necessary reforms and expressed optimism that these efforts would benefit all regions of Nigeria.
“We commend President Tinubu and his administration for their dedication to this cause. The restructuring process promises to enhance governance, promote equitable resource distribution, and ensure that every region benefits from our collective wealth,” Emmanuel stated.
While acknowledging the role of protests in a democratic society, Emmanuel urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to engage in peaceful dialogue instead. “Protests can be a vital tool for expressing grievances, but at this critical juncture, we believe that constructive collaboration with the government can lead to more sustainable solutions to our challenges,” he said.
In a related development, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, explained the federal government’s opposition to the planned protest. He noted that while the right to protest is constitutionally guaranteed, there were concerns that some individuals might hijack the demonstration to cause trouble.
Emmanuel’s call for peaceful engagement over protests reflects a broader appeal for national unity and constructive dialogue during this period of economic and political transformation in Nigeria.
