Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has praised Rena Wakama, head coach of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following her recognition as the best coach of women’s basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Wakama, 32, was honored by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for her outstanding leadership and commitment to excellence. Under her guidance, the D’Tigress made history by becoming the first African basketball team to reach the quarter-finals at the Olympics.
In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended Wakama and the entire team for their exemplary sportsmanship and discipline. He encouraged them to continue striving for greatness and to maintain their resilience despite the challenges.
The President also expressed gratitude to the Nigerian contingent for their dedication and wished them success in their future endeavors.
