Port Harcourt, August 22, 2024- A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an ex parte order preventing the National leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from proceeding with its planned Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses in the state. These congresses were scheduled to take place on October 11, 16, and 26, 2024.
The ruling came after a lawsuit was filed by Peter Ohochukwu and Haija Ndidi-Chukwuma on behalf of themselves and all elected executive members of the APC in Rivers State. The plaintiffs argued that the congresses, if allowed to proceed, would undermine their positions and the party’s established leadership in the state.
In addition to the APC’s national leadership, the suit also named the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Nigeria Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. The court’s order effectively halts any preparations or activities related to the congresses until the matter is resolved.
Further details on the case and its implications are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
