Awka, September 4, 2024 — Esther Obidigwe and her two children, Ozioma and Obuka, have been arrested by Anambra State Police for allegedly assaulting their 75-year-old father, Mr. Romanus Obidigwe, in Awba-Ofemili, Awka North.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Mr. Obidigwe at the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare. He reported that his family had subjected him to physical abuse and neglect. According to Obidigwe, his daughter sold his firewood without permission, leading to a violent confrontation in which his wife and children assaulted him with a rod, tied him up, and locked him out of his home. He also claimed that his son had stolen from him and claimed his retirement benefits.
While Obuka denied involvement, Mrs. Esther Obidigwe admitted to the assault. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ify Obinabo, condemned the violence and promised justice for Mr. Obidigwe, emphasizing that the ministry supports the welfare of all citizens.
The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and potential prosecution.
