SUPER EAGLES THRASH BENIN REPUBLIC 3-0 IN 2025 AFCON QUALIFIERS

The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The win marks a sweet revenge for Nigeria, following their loss to Benin in the World Cup qualifiers.

 

Captain William Troost-Ekong credited coach Augustine Eguavoen for the team’s massive victory, stating that the team has great belief in him. “We respect Benin, but we also believe in our coach. He’s like a family member who’s come back to us now, and we knew we had to take the responsibility today.”

 

Troost-Ekong also praised the team’s attacking talent, saying, “We don’t have to name them, but everybody knows how dangerous we are. If we play well and keep the door shut at the back, we’ll create chances and score.”

 

The captain highlighted the team’s flexibility, noting their ability to adapt to different formations. “We have players with quality who can decide to play any system. It’s something we discussed, and I observed, and I know with the calibre of players that we have, we can decide to play any formation and be successful.”

Troost-Ekong acknowledged the pressure on the team, saying, “When much is expected from Nigerians, that’s when we see performance. We know we have the calibre and quality to be able to beat anything, but we respect teams anyway.”

 

The Super Eagles will face Rwanda in their second qualifiers game on Saturday, as they continue their preparations for the 2025 AFCON.
