PDP Ward Suspends Former National Secretary, Umar Tsauri

**PDP W

Katsina, Nigeria – The Executive Committee of Tsauri ‘A’ Ward in Katsina State has announced the suspension of Senator Umar Tsauri, the former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The decision was revealed in a letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Alhaji Danjume Abubakar.

The suspension, effective as of September 14, 2024, follows a meeting of the ward’s executive committee. According to the committee, the suspension is temporary, pending the outcome of an investigation by a disciplinary committee into several allegations against Tsauri.

Tsauri has been accused of engaging in anti-party activities, making unguarded comments about the party’s national leadership, and participating in actions that could harm the party’s reputation. The ward’s executive committee stated that the suspension aligns with Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which gives them the authority to discipline members.

The committee urged all party members to remain loyal and committed to the principles of party discipline, calling for unity to ensure the PDP remains strong and capable of winning elections.

Alhaji Lawal Audi-Yar’adua, the PDP spokesman in Katsina, confirmed receipt of the suspension letter. He noted that the party had formed a committee to investigate the allegations and emphasized that no member is above the party’s constitution.

In response, Senator Tsauri challenged the suspension, arguing that the ward and state chapters of the party do not have the constitutional authority to suspend a former National Secretary without following due process. He also claimed that he had not received an official suspension letter and only saw the information circulating on social media. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the party’s procedures before taking action against any member.

The disciplinary process is expected to continue as the party navigates the internal conflict.
