Amotekun Arrests 27 Suspects for Kidnapping, Theft, and Other Crimes in Ondo State

The Western Nigeria Security Network, commonly known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested 27 individuals suspected of involvement in various crimes, including kidnapping and theft, in Ondo State. This was disclosed by the state commander, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, during a press briefing yesterday in Akure, the state capital.

Among the arrested suspects are four alleged kidnappers who have been terrorizing villagers in the Ikakumo-Akoko area. Adeleye revealed that the suspected kidnappers, along with other gang members still at large, had been active for a long time in the region.

The commander also mentioned the arrest of a key member of a syndicate involved in robbing and killing commercial motorcycle riders. The suspect, who had been tracked across Kogi and Edo states, confessed to stealing numerous motorcycles over the past five years in Akure, Ogbese, and Uso. After robbing the owners, the suspect would dismantle the motorcycles and transport the parts out of the state.

In addition to these arrests, five other suspects involved in stealing household equipment and foodstuffs were apprehended. Another group of individuals was also arrested for breaking into a shop and stealing mattresses, which they sold for between N5,000 and N10,000 each.

Adeleye attributed the recent successes to the establishment of the Amotekun Rangers, who have been instrumental in arresting suspected criminals, particularly in the border forests between Edo and Kogi states.

Amotekun continues to work diligently to ensure the safety of residents in Ondo State and neighboring areas.
