The Adamawa State Government has confirmed a cholera outbreak, resulting in 12 deaths. The State Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, announced the outbreak in a statement on Sunday in Yola.
Tangwami reported that out of 50 suspected cases tested, 30 returned positive for cholera. Of the 12 deaths, six occurred in a healthcare facility, while the remaining six were recorded at home. In total, 308 people have been admitted, with 244 treated and discharged.
“We have received confirmation from the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja. What we are dealing with is acute watery diarrhea, commonly known as cholera,” Tangwami said.
He urged the public to remain cautious, emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene and safe drinking water.
Tangwami assured the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to contain the outbreak, asking for continued cooperation with health workers as they work to control the spread.
He also encouraged people to pray for the state and remain calm during this period.
