A 19-year-old teenager, Julius Francis, was presented before the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing cables valued at N475,000.
Francis, a resident of Barnawa in Kaduna, faces asingle charge of theft. According to Inspector Chidi Leo, the incident occured on September 2Kaduna.
Leo stated that the defendant purportedly stole 150 meters of 1.5mm cables, belonging to Williams Investment Ltd. The theft was intercepted by a vigilant security guard before Francis could abscond with the cables, leading to his immediate apprehension and subsequent transfer to the police station.
The prosecutor emphasized that Francis’s actions contravene the provisions of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
During the court proceedings, Francis pleaded not guilty to the charge. In response, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000, requiring one surety who must demonstrate a reliable source of income and provide evidence of tax payment.
The magistrate adjourned the case until October 16 for further hearing.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts to address theft and uphold security measures in Kaduna, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice under the law.
