After a 15-year break, Nigerian reggae dancehall legend Omin Churchill Nyong, known as Spydaman, has announced his return to music with a new album titled *OMIN (Afro Dancehall Experience)*. Known for his unique fusion of Afrobeats, reggae, and hip-hop, Spydaman’s music resonates with fans across generations for its socially conscious lyrics and genre-blending style.
Spydaman began his career in 2002 and quickly gained fame with albums like “No Bi Dream” and “Let It Go”, along with hit singles such as ” Telephone Lies”, “Pick Pin”, and “Denge N Poze”.
Collaborations with Nigerian stars like MI, Pasuma, Timaya, and the late Sound Sultan further established him as a respected name in the industry. His contributions have earned him awards, including Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist at the 2010 Nigerian Music Video Awards.
In addition to his music, Spydaman became a key figure in Nigerian media, hosting popular shows like “Reach Out” on MiTV, “Vybz Plus” on LTV, and ” “Golden Rockers” on STV. His influence extended beyond music, as he supported brand campaigns for companies like Benson & Hedges and Guinness and helped launch careers of major artists like D’banj and P-Square.
Reflecting on his hiatus, Spydaman shared, “Stepping away was necessary for me – I had other business pursuits, including running a successful logistics company, and I needed to prioritize my mental health and financial stability. It wasn’t easy to keep believing in Spydaman, but my passion for music and the fans kept the fire burning.”
His new album “OMIN (Afro Dancehall Experience)” brings Spydaman back with his signature Afro-dancehall sound, offering powerful rhythms and thoughtful lyrics. A special feature on the album is a collaboration with his son, highlighting Spydaman’s commitment to nurturing new talent in Nigerian music.
To celebrate his comeback, Spydaman will host an exclusive album launch party on November 21 at Carabana Lounge in Lagos, where fans, artists, and music industry leaders are expected to gather for an evening of live performances.
