The Nigerian government has successfully received 148 citizens repatriated from the Niger Republic, according to a statement released by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday.
NEMA, in collaboration with key stakeholders and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), coordinated the return of these individuals on Tuesday. The group arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard a Skymali flight (ER-CTZ) at approximately 2:15 PM.
The agency’s statement detailed that the group included a mix of demographics: 120 adult males, nine adult females, 10 male children, seven female children, and two infants.
Upon arrival, there was a brief delay in disembarkation due to heavy rain, which postponed the transfer of the returnees from the aircraft. Once the weather improved, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service and other agencies facilitated their transfer to the biometric registration center for proper documentation.
NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office (LTO) was joined by representatives from various agencies, including the Nigerian Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), IOM, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), to ensure a smooth process.
This repatriation effort underscores Nigeria’s ongoing collaboration with international partners to support its citizens stranded in foreign countries.
