Kinshasa, DRC – After nearly three decades away, Congolese-American artist Nkumu Katalay is returning to his homeland with a mission to empower and inspire the next generation. Nkumu will host a series of cultural workshops for 900 students at SIFA Primary School in Kinshasa, where he was once a student himself.
The initiative comes at a special moment for SIFA, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Nkumu’s workshops aim to integrate art into education, showcasing its vital role in enhancing creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression in children.
“This journey is about giving back to the community that shaped me,” said Nkumu. “Art has the power to inspire, and I hope to encourage these students to embrace their heritage and pursue their dreams.”
The workshops are supported by a coalition of organizations, including the Conseil Provincial de la Jeunesse de Kinshasa, Congo Youth Coalition, Framework Music, and Nkumu Katalay LLC. The event will culminate in an exhibition where the students will display their artistic creations.
