Lagos, Nigeria — A biographical video profiling Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has ignited political discussions as groups and supporters tout him as a potential candidate for the Lagos governorship in the 2027 elections.
The video, circulating widely on social media, highlights Seyi Tinubu’s education, career, and philanthropic efforts, emphasizing his contributions to youth development in Nigeria. The release coincides with endorsements from groups like the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders and Friends of Seyi, who believe he possesses the vision and intellect to govern Lagos, the nation’s commercial hub.
Some groups have even suggested Seyi Tinubu could vie for governorship in other states, such as Osun or Imo, further fueling the debate. However, the endorsements have not been universally welcomed.
Joe Igbokwe, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, criticized the growing support for Seyi Tinubu’s potential candidacy, calling it a “needless distraction.” In a Facebook post, he argued, “Who are these faceless people pushing Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor? Ruling Lagos is not the job of boys.”
Seyi Tinubu, who has yet to comment on the matter, has maintained a public image centered on philanthropy and business ventures rather than political ambitions.
The release of the biopic and the accompanying endorsements mark the beginning of what could be a contentious lead-up to the 2027 elections in Lagos, a state with deep political significance in Nigeria. Whether or not Seyi Tinubu formally enters the race, his growing prominence ensures his name will remain a focal point in discussions about the future of Lagos politics.
