UK Appoints British-Nigerian Florence Eshalomi as Trade Envoy to Nigeria

London –The United Kingdom has appointed British-Nigerian politician Florence Eshalomi as its new Trade Envoy to Nigeria. Her appointment makes her the second Nigerian to hold this position.

Eshalomi confirmed her appointment on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, expressing her commitment to strengthening economic ties between the UK and Nigeria.

“It is an honour to have been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria. I’m looking forward to building on my close ties with Nigeria to promote a strong and flourishing economic relationship between our two great nations,” she wrote.

Announcing the appointment, the UK’s Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, stated that the decision aims to attract more investment into the UK and enhance economic growth.

“I’ve launched a new team of trade envoys who will use their experience, expertise, and knowledge to unlock new markets around the world for British businesses, attract investment into the UK, and ultimately drive economic growth,” Reynolds said.

Eshalomi, 44, is a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Vauxhall and Camberwell Green constituency in the UK. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political and International Studies with Law from Middlesex University.

Her appointment is expected to deepen economic cooperation between the UK and Nigeria, fostering trade and investment opportunities for businesses in both countries.
